T.R.R. Cobb was one of Athens most famous historical figures. He is described in the history books as "one of Georgia’s greatest lawyers, an advocate of education and religion, and an officer in the Confederate army. He was also an ardent Southern Nationalist, an advocate of states’ rights, and a supporter of the institution of slavery." The guy wrote a giant book in 1858 defending slavery so I think whatever good things can be said about the man are wiped away by that. Either way though the history at the T.R.R. Cobb house is amazing and worth being preserved. So there is a little history lesson.
I arrived at the house to a vision of historically dressed actors rehearsing through the windows. It was a glimpse into the past. The actors are part of the Rose of Athens Theatre and will be performing as T.R.R. Cobb's brother Howell Cobb and wife Mary Anne Cobb on holiday tours of historic homes. I've always had a daydream about traveling back in history to take pictures so a chance to photograph historically dressed people in a historic home was really cool to me.
Jeremy Miller as "T.R.R. Cobb" ,righ, and Danielle Miller as "Mary Anne Cobb" the wife of T.R.R.'s brother Howell Cobb rehearses vignettes that will be performed by the Rose of Athens performers during holiday tours of historic houses Thursday Nov. 19, 2009, at the T.R.R. Cobb House in downtown Athens.
