FOTOBALL: planes, trains, and flies

Former Georgia tailback Knowshon Moreno came to Georgia from New Jersey by train and former quarterback Matthew Stafford came from Texas by plane. For the 2008 Georgia football preview reporters Marc Weiszer and Roger Clarkson each went to one of the guys' hometowns to write the story of their life's journey to the University of Georgia football team. The sports editor came to me wanting to shoot Knowshon on a train track and Matthew on a runway. It can be tough to get Georgia athletes off campus for any shoots, but thanks to the most rockin' Sports Information Director ever, Leland Barrow, I got to shoot Matthew at the Athens Ben Epps Airport and Knowshon at a train track location I scouted out not far from campus. The shoots were shockingly smooth thanks to help from Richard Hamm and sports editor John Kaltefleiter.
The best story I came away with from the experience was Knowshon's complaints about having to stand near a train car that had some flys buzzing by it. "How close to I have to get? I don't like bugs," he repeated as he seemed more afraid of a couple flies than he does of a 250 lb. linebacker.
